Day Trips from Waynesville, NC

We are proud to say that when it comes to the ultimate Smoky Mountain vacation, Waynesville has it all. With our selection of fine dining, thrilling outdoor excursions, and scenic views, you've got the perfect place to stay. Another perk of Waynesville is our convenience to nearby places to explore. Add to the excitement of your trip by hopping around to nearby towns during the day to experience more of the Smokies—we'll be waiting for you when you get back! Check out these day-trip destinations, all under a 2-hour drive from Waynesville.

See more of Haywood County

Sometimes we like to keep things close to home. Haywood County is the perfect place to explore several mountain towns all in one region. Wake up in Waynesville and mosey on over to Lake Junaluska to make a splash with some water activities such as canoeing or paddleboarding. Maggie Valley is another excellent spot for outdoor adventures such as hiking and elk watching in the Cataloochee Valley. Don't forget the charming town of Clyde where you can find local shops and tasty Southern cuisine. Lastly, stop by the historic and homey Canton, where you can experience adventures along the Pigeon River and take in their rich Appalachian history. These Haywood towns are all clustered close to Waynesville, so you won't have to go far for more fun!

Adventure to Asheville, NC

Located just a 30-minute drive from Waynesville, Asheville is a lively city with a thriving music and art scene. This place is hoppin' when it comes to their craft breweries and international restaurants. Check out Wicked Weed or Catawba Brewing. Shop along the bustling streets at their clothing boutiques or find a locally crafted treasure to take home. Speaking of home, check out the breathtaking Biltmore Estate for some #SummerHomeGoals. No matter what kind of day trip you are planning, there is always fun to find in Asheville.

Explore the Pisgah National Forest

Immerse yourself in the beauty of the outdoors by taking a trip to the Pisgah National Forest, located just a 30-minute drive from Waynesville. This lush hardwood forest is home to rushing whitewater rivers, scenic waterfalls, and hiking trails for miles (thousands of miles, in fact). Pack up your friends and family and take in some trout fishing or cool off by taking a dip in the streams. There's no better way to refresh your day than breathing in that crisp mountain air.

Discover Brevard, NC

Cruise on over to Brevard, “North Carolina’s Land of Waterfalls.” This town is flowing with adventure and beautiful cascades—250 in Transylvania County to be exact! While there are several ways to enjoy your time in the wilderness, this historical town is home to shopping, dining, and fun cultural festivities. Take a stroll through downtown Brevard and listen to live music while you take in that fresh mountain air. You’ll fall for this small town!

When it comes to choosing your day-trip destination, the options are as grand as the mountains themselves. Whether you want to spend all day exploring or come home early to enjoy our local food & fun, Waynesville can be your convenient home away from home. Book your cozy accommodations with us, and let the enjoyment begin!
