How to make yourself at home in Haywood County

How to make yourself at home in Haywood County

If you’re planning on packing up and heading towards our neck of the woods for a while—maybe you’re working remote or taking advantage of e-Learning—you’re in for a real treat. There’s plenty of inspiration and adventure to fill your days in the NC Smokies! But, we know there are some parts of “home” that you can’t throw into a suitcase and strap to the roof of your car. To help Haywood feel like home for you, we put together a short guide to help make your transition smooth.

*Click the arrow icon in the top left to find what you're looking for!

Groceries

Here in Haywood County, you’ll find all the chain stores you’re used to visiting, like Ingles, Wal-Mart, and Publix, so you can stock your cabin’s pantry just like you do at home number one. If you’re looking for fresh, locally sourced supplies, Sunburst Market in Waynesville sells their freshly caught trout alongside a ton of other delicious goods. Farmer’s markets and local gardens are an excellent source for fresh, local produce, too.

Urgent Care/Pharmacies

We hope you never need medical help while you’re here. But it’s good to be prepared, right? In case you do need to see a doctor, there are a handful of Urgent Care clinics in our county, as well as a MinuteClinic. If you need to transfer your prescription here, you’ll be able to find several pharmacies that can help you out.

Churches

If a big chunk of your Sunday agenda centers around going to your place of worship, you won’t be missing that here, either. Regardless of your denomination, you’ll find a church here where you’re welcomed instantly!

Car Repairs

A strong frontrunner for “something you don’t think you’ll miss until you desperately need it” is a reliable car repair shop. You’ll find plenty here, and each one is full of helpful, honest, and considerate Haywood County locals, eager to get you up and running again.

Libraries

If you’re taking parent-teaching virtually (or if you’re a bookwork who loves to learn new things), the Haywood County Public Library system is a great resource to check out. Getting a library card is really easy, too. There are also four branches throughout our county, so you’re probably staying near one.

Liquor Stores

Finally, the most essential of essential businesses: our local liquor and beverage shops. As you might’ve guessed—we have plenty to go around. You can grab a six-pack to-go from any of our local breweries. Enjoy the freshly distilled spirits at Elevated Mountain. Stop by Bosu’s Wine Shop for a nice bottle of vino to pair with a lovely evening on your back porch.

We’re proud to call Haywood County our home here in the North Carolina Smoky Mountains. If you’re up for joining us, you’ll find everything you need to make this place your “home,” too. Come see us at our Visitor Center in Maggie Valley if you have any other questions, or if you just want to chat!
