Apples on the trees and footballs in the air signify fall is officially here, and with a vibrantly colorful landscape for miles around, now is a stunning time to visit Maggie Valley. We offer numerous seasonal excursions and experiences for family members of all ages.
The Blue Ridge Parkway is a scenic byway that gives drivers and cyclists a one of a kind experience. We’re fortunate enough in Maggie to host an entrance to the Parkway, which makes joy rides and hikes readily available for both visitors and locals.
The entrance is located at Soco Gap. Once you enter the Parkway, you can journey to the southern end of the road in Cherokee or turn left to enter the Cherokee Indian Reservation. If you head north, you can drive the entire length of the Parkway, a popular pastime for many people, especially when leaf looking is the goal. From the Soco Gap entrance, you can also enjoy a number of hikes including Waterrock Knob, Devils Courthouse and Mount Pisgah.
October is a wonderful month for apple picking, pumpkin carving and corn mazes. Many of our visitors love to visit nearby orchards so they can travel home with a crate load of North Carolina apples. Others like to carve a pumpkin on the deck of their cabin or in the courtyard of their hotel. Children can meander through Haywood County corn mazes searching for clues to help them find the exit. Further, the Fall Arts & Crafts Festival will be held at the Maggie Valley Fairgrounds on October 20 and 21. The fairgrounds is nestled among mountainous peaks, so not only can you shop to your heart’s delight, but you can do so in a gloriously scenic setting.
With it already being October, the holidays will be here in a flash. Early next month, businesses and residents will adorn their stores and homes with decorations and lights for our annual Maggie Gets Lit. Now’s the time to make plans to visit us in November and December. Not only will The Valley be aglow, but you can visit our many merchants and crafters to buy unique gifts for those you love.
