Five great winter beverages in the NC Smokies

Five great winter beverages in the NC Smokies

There's something about the nippy air that makes the perfect drink a necessity on the coldest winter days. Whether it's warm cocoa or coffee, or a boozy treat, Haywood County has you covered. Check out some of these local favorites ... in fact, why not try them all!?

Birchwood Hall Chicory Old Fashioned

If a delicious cocktail is what you’re looking for to warm the belly and raise the spirits, Birchwood Hall Southern Kitchen in downtown Waynesville has the just the concoction. Showcasing brandy and Drambuie (a golden liqueur made from Scotch, heather honey and various herbs and spices), along with house-made chicory simple syrup and smokey bitters, this delicious drink will hit the spot.

Dillsboro Chocolate Company Hot Cocoa

Also on Main Street in Waynesville, Dillsboro Chocolate Factory offers a silky-smooth hot cocoa made fresh behind the espresso bar. This hot and fresh classic winter beverage is sure to bring a smile to folks old and young and provides the perfect accompaniment for a stroll through beautiful downtown Waynesville.

Farm to Cake Hot Cocoa Bomb

Want to make your hot cocoa in the comfort of your own home? Take the short trip from downtown Waynesville to Hazelwood’s Farm to Cake Bakery and get your hands on a made-from-scratch hot cocoa bomb. Not quite sure how it works? Well, it’s simple. Just plop the hot cocoa bomb into a large mug and slowly pour hot milk over it to watch it dissolve, bringing to the surface delicious marshmallows! You can either buy one on its own or buy two together to also receive two flavored stirring spoons.

BearWaters Brewing Company Snownado

If beer is more your speed, fear not, BearWaters has you covered. With locations riverside in Canton and creekside in Maggie Valley, you won’t be far from a chance to enjoy this peppermint mocha stout that abounds in both flavors. It's a heavy dark beer that manages to offer a blast of winter with each drink!

Papertown Coffee juniper-cardamom latte

Canton’s Papertown Coffee became an immediate favorite when it opened its doors in June of 2019 and has only gained popularity, owing heavily to not only the warm atmosphere the owners have cultivated, but also delicious seasonal drinks like this winter’s latte made with juniper and cardamom syrup and zested orange. Head on down to Papertown for that perfect winter pick-me-up!
